Bonaire Dive Into Summer 2008 is a four-month long, island-wide event that showcases a number of adventure and marine conservation activities in addition to the core diving activities. The year 2008 has been designated as the International Year of the Reef, so many of the activities planned for Bonaire Dive Into Summer will have IYOR as the underlining theme running through the events.
In 1997, Bonaire hosted the International Year of the Reef's inaugural Dive Festival event. It also became IYOR's first partner in the Caribbean to establish a comprehensive program dedicated to executing a program of public education about coral reefs, assessing the conditions of coral reefs and collaborating with local communities and other reef managers to develop and implement plans for the use of irreplaceable reef resources.
For the tenth anniversary of the International Year of the Reef, Bonaire has become a focal point destination for the organization and with the strength of an eleven-year working relationship behind them, will collaborate with The Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) to execute a program to continue the work that began ten years ago. Additionally, Earth Echo International will join forces with the Tourism Corporation Bonaire, STINAPA and CORAL to implement a program for IYOR and BDIS 2008.
